Whether you connect to an open hotspot or you use a network that you don't trust, using a VPN can be a good way to secure your connection. Indeed, when you use a VPN service, your data is securely transferred to the VPN servers and then these servers send your request to the target site on your behalf.
Once you are connected, all your network data goes through VPN Unlimited. Can it be trusted with it? KeepSolid is a 2013-founded company that is based in the USA. In addition, it claims that it doesn't save your navigation data, but only the time at which you connect to the VPN. The client security seems solid since it uses the Blowfish 128-bit in CBC mode encryption, which is more than enough in most cases.
Installing VPN Unlimited is quite straightforward, as it only needs a few clicks. After the installation, connecting to the VPN is easy as well: you only need to click on the connect button and it will find the server that will have the best speed for you. If you want to connect to a specific server, that's possible too. The interface shows the different available servers, their location, and their workload. Quite handy when it comes to browsing sites that are only available in specific countries. Be aware though: only a few servers allow you to use peer-to-peer services such as torrent. Make sure to connect to one of these servers if you need to use it.
In my testing, the connection to the VPN took approximately 10 seconds, but the speed of my network reduced dramatically. Before connecting, a speed test indicated me that my network speed was 22.45 Mbps. After connecting to the VPN using the optimal server option, it dropped to 5.67 Mbps. However, this depends on your location as I heard several reports that claimed that they didn't suffer from significant network speed drops.
All in all, VPN Unlimited is a solid and easy-to-use VPN service. It's quite good privacy-wise, but its speed is disappointing. Before buying it, you can test the 7-day trial version, it has all the features of the full version and it requires no credit card or initial payment.

It is extremely easy to use and very good at its job.
Although as of 01 March 2023, the latest Windows version of VPN Unlimited is actually v8.6.4.
Currently, the version listed here as v8.7 is for the macOS not for Windows.
